Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough enquire about Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp will be allowed to leave the club this month if he wants to, according to a report by Sky Sports.

Championship duo Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough have both lodged enquiries about his availability.

Sharp, who is 33 years old, has started just once for the Blades in the Premier League so far this season and will not be short of options in the second tier this winter.

However, he may want to stay at his beloved Sheffield United and help secure their top-flight status this term before considering his future in the summer. His contract at Bramall Lane expires in the summer of 2021.

Sharp played a massive part in Chris Wilder’s side gaining automatic promotion from the Championship last season, bagging 24 goals in all competitions.

Nottingham Forest are hoping to get into the Play-Offs and see Sharp as someone who would boost their attacking options going into the second half of the campaign. He played for the Reds on loan in the 2012/13 season.

Middlesbrough, on the other hand, have been busy so far in this transfer window and have already brought in Manchester City pair Lucas Nmecha and Patrick Roberts on loan. They now want to continue their recruitment drive by landing Sharp.

The experienced striker, who has also played for the likes of Scunthorpe United, Doncaster Rovers, Southampton, Reading and Leeds United in the past, has a big decision to make this month and Sheffield United will not stand in his way if he wants more game time in the Championship.
